We’re proud to offer an extensive and comprehensive range of assessments that we can utilise as needed, based on your concerns and experiences. We know that psychologist-based assessment can feel daunting, which is why we take the time to carefully explain each assessment, its goal, what it may tell us, and what the results mean. Our team always goes above and beyond to ensure that you are always heard and are never left in the dark about what is happening with your care.
No matter your concern, it can be helpful to organise formal psychological assessments for yourself, or your child or teenager, not only to receive a possible diagnosis, but to gain insight and clarity into each person’s individual strengths, challenges, intelligence, skills, feelings, thoughts and behaviours. These assessments can highlight the best paths that we can take to support and nurture you and your child, and pave the way for success with practical steps to enable positive progress to be made.
We can use the Conners assessment to determine whether your child may have ADHD. It’s usually used for children and teenagers aged 6-18 years, and can discover how ADHD may be affecting your child at school, socially, and at home. It identifies specific challenge areas to work on, and monitors how much progress is being made over time.
Depending on age, we have two assessments that can be used to assess overall intelligence. The Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC - V) can be used for children aged 6 to 16 years old, and Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS - IV) is used for adolescents who are 16 years and older. These assessments can identify intellectual and learning disabilities, giftedness, evaluate the impact of brain injuries, and evaluate strengths and weaknesses.
Rather than intelligence, the Wechsler Individual Achievement Test (WIAT) is designed to assess academic performance, in children and adolescents aged school-aged and older. It can provide a summary of your child’s capability in typical school subjects such as reading, writing, mathematics, spelling awareness and oral language, to help you identify what support they need to achieve more successfully.
If you have concerns about your memory or the memory of a loved one, the Wechsler Memory Scale (WMS) can be used to assess memory function. It is suitable for people aged 16 years and older, and investigates a wide range of memory elements, including logical, verbal, visual, spatial, auditory and delayed memory functions.
The NEPSY II assessment is a neurological assessment suitable for children in pre-school and older. It is often combined with behavioural observations from home and school, and helps to clarify the nature of a child's academic, social or behavioural difficulties, which can enable psychologists to identify solutions for possible treatment options. It looks at elements such as attention and executive functioning, language, memory and learning, sensorimotor, social perception, and visuospatial processing.
The Intelligence and Development Scale (IDS II) is a global cognitive assessment of the 'whole child', and is able to identify their knowledge, strengths, and developmental needs in one complete picture. It’s suitable for those 5 years and older, and can provide in-depth information about your child’s strengths and developmental needs, which can enable us to identify where support is needed to help them achieve their full potential. It assesses elements such as intelligence, psychomotor skills, social and emotional skills, academic skills, and motivation and attitude.
We offer comprehensive autism assessments for children and teenagers, which can bring a lot of clarity for parents and provide information which can support your child in their education and beyond. We will provide you with a formal report, which can then be taken to your doctor, paediatrician or psychiatrist who can use it towards providing a formal diagnosis. If possible, it is helpful if you can bring a referral letter from your doctor or other medical specialist to your initial appointment.
